Pakistan’s oil refining industry has crossed the $1 billion export mark for the first time, with five major refineries exporting petroleum products worth around $1.046 billion during FY2025-26. The milestone has added a new source of foreign exchange for the country.
The exports accounted for nearly 3.5% of Pakistan’s total merchandise exports, which stood at $30.139 billion during the fiscal year. The achievement is important as the country’s merchandise trade deficit reached nearly $39.62 billion, with exports falling while imports increased.
| Refinery | Export Value |
|---|---|
| PARCO | $277 million |
| Cnergyico | $258 million |
| National Refinery | $238 million |
| Pakistan Refinery | $200 million |
| Attock Refinery | $73 million |
| Total | $1.046 billion |
PARCO was the largest exporter at $277 million, followed by Cnergyico at $258 million. National Refinery, Pakistan Refinery, and Attock Refinery contributed $238 million, $200 million, and $73 million, respectively.
Lower domestic demand for furnace oil has encouraged refiners to export surplus production instead of cutting refinery operations. Cnergyico has also entered the Very Low Sulphur Fuel Oil bunkering business, supplying marine fuel to international ships at Pakistani ports.
