Pakistan has announced a significant revision in petroleum prices, offering major relief to consumers of High-Speed Diesel (HSD) while slightly increasing the cost of petrol. The revised prices will take effect from August 20, 2026, following an adjustment approved after discussions between the government and oil refineries.
Under the new rates, the price of High-Speed Diesel has been reduced by Rs. 32.63 per litre, bringing it down to Rs. 363.06 per litre. The sharp decrease is expected to provide relief to transporters, businesses, farmers and other sectors that rely heavily on diesel for daily operations.
In contrast, petrol prices have increased by Rs. 2.97 per litre, reaching Rs. 337.51 per litre. The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) issued the revised rates after the government held negotiations with oil refineries regarding the pricing of locally produced diesel.
The latest adjustment comes only a day after both petrol and diesel prices were increased, making the rapid revision particularly notable. The new rates will remain in effect until the next scheduled review, with future adjustments continuing to take into account international oil prices, exchange rates and other relevant cost factors.
