Details concerning the deaths of Pakistani workers living and working abroad over the past two years have been presented in Parliament, highlighting the risks faced by overseas workers and raising questions about the support available to affected families.
According to the official figures cited in the report, 799 Pakistani workers lost their lives abroad during the period under review.
Saudi Arabia recorded the highest number of reported deaths, with 575 Pakistani workers, followed by the United Arab Emirates with 104 and Malaysia with 35. The figures also included 16 deaths in Oman, 13 in Libya and 10 in the United Kingdom.
The data provides an overview of the countries where the highest numbers of deaths among Pakistani workers were recorded, although the figures alone do not establish the causes or circumstances behind individual cases.
The report further stated that the Government of Pakistan provided Rs. 1.3 billion in financial assistance to 3,498 affected families.
The figures have brought renewed attention to the welfare and protection of Pakistanis working overseas, including the need for transparent reporting, timely assistance to families and effective mechanisms for addressing workplace safety and other risks.
Further details regarding the causes of death and the nature of government support would be important for assessing whether adequate protections and accountability measures are in place.
