Pakistan has stepped forward to support Nepal after severe flash floods and landslides caused widespread destruction across several Himalayan areas, with more than 500 people reportedly losing their lives and hundreds still missing.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif spoke with Nepalese Prime Minister Balendra Shah and conveyed his condolences over the heavy loss of life and damage caused by the disaster.
During the conversation, Sharif expressed Pakistan’s solidarity with the people of Nepal and assured the Nepalese government that Islamabad was ready to provide assistance during the difficult situation.
Pakistan has also decided to send emergency relief supplies to Nepal. The assistance is intended to support rescue teams and affected communities as they deal with the aftermath of the floods and landslides.
The disaster has severely affected communities in mountainous areas, where damaged roads and infrastructure are making access difficult for emergency workers. Rescue teams are continuing searches for people who remain missing while efforts are also underway to provide essential support to survivors.
The scale of the destruction has created major challenges for local authorities, with homes, roads and other infrastructure affected by powerful floodwaters and landslides.
There are also concerns that additional flooding could make the situation more difficult, particularly in areas already damaged by the disaster.
