Indus Motor Company, which manufactures Toyota vehicles in Pakistan, has completed a large-scale plantation drive after planting one million trees across different parts of the country.
The achievement makes the company the first automotive company in Pakistan to reach the milestone, according to the initiative’s organisers. The project was carried out under the company’s Million Tree Plantation Project, with activities extending across Sindh, Punjab and Islamabad.
A significant part of the plantation work took place in Karachi, where trees were planted in a variety of urban, industrial and coastal locations. These included areas such as Port Qasim, Bin Qasim, Gadap, Malir, Korangi, Clifton, SITE, Hawksbay, Shahrah-e-Faisal and University Road.
The project was implemented in collaboration with organisations including WWF-Pakistan and the United Nations Association of Pakistan. The partnerships supported efforts to expand green areas and encourage greater attention to environmental conservation.
The initiative is intended to deliver benefits beyond simply increasing the number of trees. Additional green cover can help improve urban environments, provide habitats for wildlife and contribute to biodiversity protection.
Plantation activities in coastal and industrial areas are also significant as these locations face different environmental pressures compared with traditional forest regions.
The company’s million-tree milestone comes at a time when environmental resilience has become an increasingly important issue for Pakistan. Urban expansion, climate-related pressures and the loss of natural habitats have increased the need for conservation and sustainable environmental practices.
The plantation project aims to contribute to greener communities while encouraging wider participation in environmental protection.
By extending the programme across multiple provinces and the federal capital, the initiative has created a broad network of plantation sites rather than concentrating efforts in a single location.
