Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has ruled out any possibility of returning to the national team, saying his Pakistan cricket chapter is now closed.
The 34-year-old made the comments during an interview with cricket journalist and YouTuber Muhammad Furqan Bhatti. Amir recently became a British citizen through his wife, Narjis Khan, and is now eligible to play as a local player in English domestic cricket.
Explaining his decision, Amir said players registered as locals in competitions such as the County Championship and The Hundred have to sign an agreement stating that they cannot represent another country while holding local status. He said this condition has effectively ended his Pakistan career.
Amir retired from international cricket on December 14, 2024. He played 36 Tests, 61 ODIs and 62 T20Is for Pakistan, taking 271 wickets across the three formats.
He was part of Pakistan’s 2009 T20 World Cup winning team and played a key role in the 2017 Champions Trophy final against India, taking three wickets.
Amir now plans to continue playing domestic and franchise cricket. His British status also means he is expected to play in the PSL as an overseas player.
