Pakistan and Russia have signed a Freight Forwarding Contract aimed at strengthening cooperation in international freight transportation and multimodal logistics, marking another step toward improving railway connectivity between the two countries.
Under the agreement, both sides plan to launch a pilot container freight train linking Pakistan with Russia and Central Asian countries. While the launch has been delayed due to the ongoing regional conflict, the project remains on the agenda.
The initiative is expected to facilitate trade, improve logistics efficiency, promote more sustainable freight transportation, and strengthen regional connectivity.
It could also support the modernisation and financial sustainability of Pakistan Railways, while creating new opportunities for Pakistan to expand its role in regional trade and transit networks.
The agreement reflects growing efforts by Pakistan and Russia to enhance transport cooperation and develop stronger rail-based links connecting South Asia with Russia and Central Asia.
