Security measures have been intensified across Attock ahead of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest planned for September 27, with authorities focusing on major routes connecting Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) with Punjab and the Islamabad-Rawalpindi region.
A sheet fitted with nails has reportedly been installed at Attock Bridge as part of the security preparations. Containers and sandbags have also been positioned at Attock Bridge and Haroon Bridge, while additional security has been deployed around important interchanges and entry points.
Attock Bridge is a key crossing between KP and Punjab, making the area an important point in the authorities’ security plan ahead of the planned protest movement towards Islamabad.
Several major routes have also been closed at different points. The M-1 motorway has been closed between the Islamabad Toll Plaza and Chachh Interchange, while the M-14 has been blocked between Hakla and Kundal. The GT Road has also been closed at Attock Khurd, according to the National Highways and Motorway Police.
Around 30,000 security personnel have reportedly been deployed across Attock, with additional forces assigned to key sealing points along major roads and bridges.
The Punjab government has also requested Rangers deployment in Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum and Mianwali from September 22 to October 5 to assist with maintaining law and order.
The security measures come as authorities prepare for increased movement on routes leading towards Islamabad ahead of the September 27 protest.
