Security preparations for the postponed PTI protest in Islamabad are expected to increase government expenses as authorities remain on alert for the revised October 4 date.
According to police sources, the government is spending around Rs. 46.5 million per day on 1,550 containers being used as part of security arrangements. The continued deployment means these costs could rise further if the preparations remain in place for an extended period.
Additional expenses reportedly include food, accommodation and transportation for police personnel being brought in from Punjab and Sindh. Authorities have also arranged vehicles and hotel rooms for security officials involved in the preparations.
The PTI had initially announced its long march for September 27 but later postponed the planned protest until October 4. With the new date approaching, security arrangements are being maintained and additional measures are reportedly being put in place across different areas.
Reports also indicate that thousands of container vehicles have been taken into custody in several cities as authorities prepare for possible road blockages and security requirements linked to the march.
The extended preparations could place further pressure on public funds, particularly if large numbers of personnel and equipment remain deployed for several days. The final cost will depend on how long the security arrangements continue and the scale of deployment required around Islamabad.
Authorities are expected to review the security situation as the October 4 date approaches, while commuters and businesses may also be affected by any road closures, diversions or restrictions introduced as part of the arrangements.
