Miss Sept 30 Tax Deadline & Pay Upto Rs. 100,000 Fine, FBR Warns!

Taxpayers in Pakistan have until September 30, 2026, to file their income tax returns for Tax Year 2026. Those who miss the deadline could face higher penalties from October 1, depending on their taxpayer category.

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has set September 30 as the filing deadline for individuals and associations of persons (AOPs). Companies with a special tax year also have the same deadline, while companies following the standard tax year generally have until December 31.

According to FBR sources, individuals who fail to file on time could face a penalty of up to Rs. 25,000. The penalty for AOPs can reach Rs. 50,000, while companies could face a fine of up to Rs. 100,000. These amounts are higher than the penalties previously applied to late filers.

The new rules also affect taxpayers’ status on the Active Taxpayer List (ATL). Filing after the deadline can result in taxpayers losing ATL benefits and facing higher withholding tax rates.

Taxpayers are therefore being advised to complete their returns before the September 30 deadline to avoid additional costs and possible tax-related restrictions.
