Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has warned that US and allied forces will eventually be pushed out of the Arabian Sea, while presenting Iran as a major global power.
In a written message issued on September 28, Khamenei said Iranian forces had inflicted what he described as “painful blows” on enemy forces and claimed they now avoided moving beyond the Arabian Sea. He added that the waterway would soon be cleared of their presence.
Khamenei also referred to Iran as the world’s “fourth superpower” according to some observers. He went further by saying that, under what he called “divine calculations,” Iran should be considered the world’s leading power.
His remarks come as tensions between Tehran and Washington remain high following months of conflict. The United States and Iran are currently involved in indirect talks through mediators, with the Strait of Hormuz and Iran’s nuclear programme among the key issues under discussion.
The United States is also completing the withdrawal of its remaining troops from Iraq by September 30, ending a military presence there that began in 2003.
