Pakistan will export an additional 70,000 metric tonnes of rice to Malaysia between October and December 2026, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said.
The additional export arrangement is expected to create further opportunities for Pakistan’s agriculture and rice sectors by expanding access to the Malaysian market. The development will also provide opportunities for farmers, rice exporters and businesses involved in the agricultural supply chain.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the agreement would support the national economy and benefit Pakistani farmers by opening greater access to international markets. He also highlighted the government’s focus on increasing exports and promoting an export-led approach to economic growth.
Rice remains an important agricultural commodity for Pakistan, with the country supplying international markets and generating foreign exchange through agricultural exports. Expanding access to overseas markets can provide exporters with additional demand and create more opportunities across the farming and processing sectors.
The new arrangement with Malaysia comes as Pakistan continues efforts to strengthen its export base and increase trade with international markets. The additional shipments planned for the final quarter of 2026 are expected to add to the country’s rice exports and support businesses connected with the sector.
For farmers, higher demand from international buyers can create additional market opportunities, while exporters and related businesses may benefit from increased trade activity.
The agreement also reflects ongoing efforts to expand Pakistan’s agricultural exports beyond traditional markets and strengthen commercial ties with trading partners. Further details about the shipment schedule and participating exporters are expected to emerge as the exports begin.
