FBR Cancels Bahria Town Auction in Rs. 26 Billion Tax Case After Court Order

FBR has cancelled the scheduled auction of a Bahria Town property in Rawalpindi following a Supreme Court stay order that temporarily stopped tax recovery proceedings against the group.

The property, located in Bahria Golf City, comprises 32 kanal and 11 marla of land along with a constructed house. The FBR had scheduled its auction for Tuesday, October 6, as part of efforts to recover outstanding tax liabilities. According to the auction notice, the property was linked to tax dues of around Rs. 26.47 billion.

The cancellation follows a Supreme Court order issued on September 29, which restrained the FBR from recovering the outstanding amount from Bahria Town and taking enforcement action against the group. The order effectively halted the planned auction.

The property had been listed for sale through the FBR’s Large Taxpayers Office in Islamabad under the tax recovery provisions of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, and related rules. The auction was scheduled to take place at the LTO office in Islamabad.

The latest development comes amid broader FBR efforts to recover long-standing tax liabilities linked to Bahria Town properties. The tax authority has previously pursued other assets associated with the group, including properties in Islamabad and Murree.

For now, the planned sale of the Bahria Golf City property has been put on hold due to the court’s stay, while the legal proceedings over the disputed tax liabilities continue.
