Shaukat Khanum’s Karachi Hospital to Open on December 29, 2026

Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre has announced that its new hospital in Karachi is scheduled to open on December 29, 2026. Dr Aasim Yusuf, Chief Medical Officer of Shaukat Khanum Hospitals, shared the date during a media briefing at the hospital site in DHA City, Karachi.

The facility will become the organisation’s third cancer hospital in Pakistan, following its existing hospitals in Lahore and Peshawar. With an estimated cost of Rs30 billion, the Karachi project is expected to be the largest hospital in the network, reaching twice the size of its Lahore facility when fully operational.

The hospital aims to provide cancer diagnosis and treatment under one roof, serving patients from Karachi, other parts of Sindh and southern Balochistan. The organisation says more than 13,000 new cancer patients are reported annually across Karachi hospitals, highlighting the need for additional treatment facilities.

Construction finishing work is continuing, while medical equipment installation and staff recruitment are underway. The hospital plans to provide financial support to eligible patients, with more than 75% of patients across the network receiving treatment free of charge.

The opening is expected to expand access to specialised cancer care in southern Pakistan, where treatment costs and limited facilities remain major challenges for many families.
