“Punjab Is Entering the AI Era While KP is in Stone Age,” Maryam Nawaz

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has criticised the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, contrasting Punjab’s technology plans with what she described as a lack of progress in the province.

Speaking at a laptop and scholarship distribution ceremony at the University of Sahiwal on October 16, she said Punjab was moving towards artificial intelligence (AI), while KP remained in the “Stone Age.” She also accused PTI of weakening its own government through political protests and a long march.

Maryam said her government was working to give students better access to education and technology. During the event, laptops were distributed to 4,700 students, while 1,500 students received Honhaar scholarship awards.

She also highlighted plans to establish AI laboratories in educational institutions and expand public transport across Punjab. The chief minister said electric buses would eventually operate in every tehsil, with fares kept at Rs20.

Her remarks came amid growing political tensions between the federal government and PTI over administrative measures in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. PTI has opposed the federal government’s actions in the province and challenged the measures as unconstitutional.

The speech placed education, technology and provincial governance at the centre of the latest political exchange.
