Islamabad is set to welcome a 167-bed hospital that will provide free medical care, diagnostic tests and surgical services to residents of the capital and nearby areas.
The Margalla Hospital will operate under a partnership between the government and the Indus Hospital and Health Network (IHHN), a non-profit healthcare organisation. The facility had remained inactive for several years before plans were made to bring it back into service.
Federal Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal recently chaired a meeting to review preparations for the hospital’s inauguration. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to formally open the facility this week.
According to the minister, the hospital will help reduce the pressure on other major hospitals in Islamabad by providing patients with access to free healthcare services.
The initiative aims to improve access to medical treatment for people who struggle to afford healthcare costs. The partnership is also expected to make better use of existing public health facilities and expand medical services for residents of Islamabad and surrounding communities.
