Rs. 5.5 Billion Upgrade! DG Khan Airport Set to Become International by 2028

Pakistan has launched a major development project worth Rs. 5.5 billion to upgrade Dera Ghazi Khan Airport into an international facility, with the project targeted for completion by January 2028.

The initiative aims to improve air connectivity, provide better travel facilities, and create new economic opportunities for residents and businesses across South Punjab.

Federal Energy Minister Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari said the expansion plan includes extending the airport’s runway to accommodate international flights.

Once completed, the upgraded facility is expected to improve access to air travel for people in Dera Ghazi Khan and surrounding areas, potentially supporting regional trade, investment, and business activities.

Alongside the airport expansion, several other development initiatives are planned for the city. These include the establishment of a cancer hospital, improvements to road infrastructure, and the development of a sewerage system designed to serve the region for the next 50 years.

The proposed projects are intended to strengthen essential public services and address longstanding infrastructure needs in the area.

The cancer hospital could improve access to specialised healthcare, while better roads and a modern sewerage network are expected to support urban development and improve living conditions.

The airport upgrade, combined with these infrastructure initiatives, represents a broader development push for Dera Ghazi Khan.

If completed according to schedule, the projects could help improve connectivity, healthcare facilities, sanitation, and economic prospects across South Punjab.
