Pakistani citizens planning a trip to Qatar may qualify for a tourist visa on arrival, allowing them to stay in the country for up to 30 days without obtaining a tourist visa in advance, provided they fulfil the required entry conditions.
The facility comes with several mandatory requirements covering financial proof, travel documents, accommodation and medical insurance. Travellers are advised to complete these arrangements before leaving Pakistan to avoid complications at the airport.
Financial and Travel Requirements for Pakistani Visitors
Applicants must satisfy the following conditions to qualify for the visa-on-arrival facility:
- Financial Proof: Travellers must show at least QR5,000 in available funds or an equivalent amount through a valid credit card.
- Passport: The passport must have a minimum validity of six months at the time of arrival.
- Return Travel: A confirmed return air ticket is compulsory.
- Polio Immunisation: Passengers travelling directly from Pakistan must carry a valid polio vaccination certificate.
- Business Travel: Pakistani nationals visiting Qatar for business purposes must obtain their visas through companies accredited by the relevant authorities.
Hotel Reservation and Medical Coverage Are Mandatory
Arranging accommodation and health insurance is an important part of the pre-departure process.
Unlike ordinary hotel reservations, visitors applying under this facility are required to book their stay through Qatar’s official Discover Qatar platform.
Health insurance is also compulsory. Each visitor must purchase coverage for at least one month, with the basic policy costing QR50.
Qatar’s recommended insurance providers include QIC and QLM. After completing the purchase, travellers receive an email containing their insurance certificate and payment receipt. Both documents should be kept available for inspection during the journey.
Visitors can also consult the Ministry of Public Health’s official website to check the list of authorised insurance companies.
What Happens After Landing in Doha?
The entry procedure at Hamad International Airport involves an additional verification step before passengers reach immigration.
Upon arrival, Pakistani travellers must visit the Discover Qatar service counter situated before the immigration area. Airport officials at the counter check the hotel reservation and other relevant documents before completing the required verification and stamping process.
Passengers can then move to the immigration counters, where their entry formalities include visa processing, biometric verification and an eye scan.
Can Pakistani Tourists Extend Their Stay?
The initial tourist visa allows a stay of up to 30 days. However, the actual permitted period may depend on the duration of the confirmed hotel booking.
Visitors who wish to remain in Qatar beyond the initial period may apply for an extension of another 30 days, subject to immigration rules and approval.
A confirmed return ticket is among the requirements for obtaining the extension.
Pakistan Embassy Previously Issued a Travel Alert
Pakistani travellers should also consider an earlier advisory issued by the Pakistan Embassy in Doha on March 30.
At that time, the embassy announced that visa-on-arrival services for Pakistani citizens had been temporarily suspended due to the prevailing circumstances. It advised passengers to secure their visas before travelling to Qatar.
The advisory also warned that arriving without a pre-approved visa could result in difficulties or restrictions at immigration.
Travellers should therefore verify the latest visa status with the relevant Qatari authorities and the Pakistan Embassy before booking their flights, as visa policies and entry arrangements may change.
