Sealion 6 to Lead BYD’s Pakistan Assembly Plans as Sales Pass 10,000

Hub Power Company (HUBCO) is targeting December 2026 to begin assembling BYD vehicles in Pakistan, with the Sealion 6 plug-in hybrid chosen as the first model. Management outlined the plan during an analyst briefing on Tuesday, as cumulative sales of the Chinese brand surpassed 10,000 vehicles.

Sealion 6 comes first

Arif Habib Limited, which attended the briefing, reported that management expects local assembly to give further momentum to the company’s electric mobility business. The December 2026 target covers production using completely knocked-down kits.

The Sealion 6 will open the local assembly programme, while the company is also considering more models, particularly in the higher-volume B and C segments. Arif Habib Limited’s report identified the Sealion 6, B8 and B5 as models expected around the end of calendar year 2026.

Sales and earnings gain traction

The briefing also provided an update on the financial performance of HUBCO’s electric mobility business. According to Arif Habib Limited, the business continues to gain traction, with sales and earnings reaching the following levels:

  • Cumulative BYD sales exceeded 10,000 vehicles.
  • Profit for the first quarter of financial year 2027 was approximately Rs1.5 billion.
  • HUBCO’s share of that profit stood at Rs780 million.

Karachi-area plant has room to expand

The assembly plant near Karachi is a joint undertaking by BYD and Mega Motor Company. Its initial annual capacity will be 25,000 vehicles when operating two shifts, with provision to increase that to 50,000 vehicles a year.

Mega Motor Company handles the manufacturing, marketing and distribution of BYD-branded passenger electric vehicles in Pakistan. The local production plan forms part of HUBCO’s expanding investment in the automotive sector through the Chinese manufacturer.

From market entry to local production

BYD entered Pakistan’s passenger vehicle market in March 2024, partnering with Mega Conglomerate. Mega later clarified the association through its wholly owned subsidiary, Hub Power Holdings, and associated company Mega Motor Company.

HUBCO has also expressed interest in developing charging infrastructure as an extension of its power plant business. The latest briefing places local vehicle assembly at the centre of the next stage, with the Sealion 6 scheduled to lead production.
