The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has been chastised for cancelling the visit of the English men’s and women’s cricket teams to Pakistan.
According to Oborne, the move was taken to satisfy India and had nothing to do with Pakistan’s security condition.
England owes Pakistan cricket a huge debt of gratitude, according to Oborne, because they toured the country despite COVID-19 last year. He claimed that the ECB had kicked one of its closest cricketing allies in the teeth.
Oborne chastised the ECB chairman, Ian Watmore, and demanded that he explain why the decision was made. He referred to the ECB as a cowardly cricket board that has harmed England’s reputation and brought considerable harm to Pakistani cricket.
The ECB had no reason to cancel the tour, according to the respected cricket journalist, because the security procedures in the country had been cleared by British authorities and the British High Commission.
He noted that this isn’t the first-time players have chosen to play in the IPL, recalling that the skipper, Eoin Morgan, skipped the team’s trip of Bangladesh a few years ago to participate in the tournament.
Oborne explained that the ECB had to make a decision owing of player power, since many of them preferred to play in the Indian Premier League rather than for their national team.
In his judgement, the ECB’s decision to withdraw from the Pakistan tour demonstrated a culture of double standards, in which some nations appear to be significantly less important than others.
