According to well-informed sources at NEPRA, as the cost of electricity continues to rise, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has approached the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to request a 50% refund for Commissioned Officers on their electricity bills.
The GHQ, Quarter Master General Branch, Director Works and Chief Engineer (DG & CE) Army sent this request.
According to the message, the GoP set a 25% reduction on electricity rates for Army officers in 1985. With SRO No. (1)/96, the rebate was increased to 50% on electricity units utilised.
Other charges/taxes, as announced from time to time, must be paid in full by the Officers in accordance with the rates set forth in the schedule of energy tariff for ex-Wapda Companies, effective August 13, 2002.
On August 20, 2002, WAPDA (now Distribution Companies-DISCOS) received a tariff revision via letter No. 2290-2315/GMCS/Tariffs/T-150 (Vol-lx).
Military Engineering Services (MES) continued to offer a 50% rebate on energy charges in the wake of the notifications, according to the DG&CE.
Discos, on the other hand, later altered the rates under the heading of variable and other charges, i.e. variable charges, selling prices of electricity per kilowatt-hour, which includes the unit price.
