The first underground water tank in Rawal Park has been completed. The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) of Rawalpindi has completed a PKR50 million project to reduce the consumption of clean water in parks.
The rainwater collection tank installation can contain around 100,000 gallons of water. The new water tank at Rawal Lake would be crucial during the forthcoming monsoon season in Rawalpindi.
According to PHA Director General Zaheer Ahmed Jappa, the initiative will allow the authority to collect rainwater in several parks across Rawalpindi, which will be used for irrigation in parks and other planting areas.
Rawalpindi parks where these activities will be launched include Allama Iqbal Park, Rawal Park, Pothohar Park, Liaquat Bagh, and Commercial Market Children’s Park.
A second tank is being built in Liaquat Bagh, and two more will be built in Commercial Market and Allama Iqbal Park, with a total capacity of over 300,000 gallons, according to the PHA Director.
He said that the subterranean water tanks are being constructed as part of this environmentally beneficial initiative to conserve rainfall.
He went on to say that the project would help protect clean water from being abused for irrigation.
