Govt to Include 82 Lac Beneficiaries Disqualified by PTI Govt in BISP Again

Shazia Atta Marri, Federal Minister for Poverty Alleviation and Social Security, has recently made an announcement that the beneficiaries who were ineligible of the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP), who were disqualified during the former government’s tenure will be reviewed for inclusion.

Shazia Marri stated at a press conference alongside Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) Information Secretary Faisal Karim Kundi, “The names of those BISP beneficiaries who were declared undeserving to receive cash assistance during the previous government’s tenure on the basis of “unjustified” socioeconomic data filters will be reviewed, and efforts will be made to include them.”

She further said that the beneficiaries were removed from the BISP lists due to the need for an urgent CNIC or passport, as well as overseas visits to fulfil religious duties etc.

The minister added that the disqualified beneficiaries’ cases will be evaluated for inclusion in the program, and a procedure for appeal will also be developed.

In a video statement, she stated that approximately 820,000 people who were previously banned from the BISP program will be added again.

“If you’re one of the 0.8 million people who have been removed from the program, please text your CNIC number to 8178 so that we can look at your case for reintegration into the program,” Marri added.
