World’s First Ever Double Armed and Shoulder Transplant Recipients Make Incredible Recovery

The world’s very first person to get a transplant of his double arm and shoulder is known to be Felix Gretarsson, age 49.

The Icelandic man, who was also an electrician, ended up losing one of his arms in a miserable work accident in 1998.

Gretarsson started out on the 12th of January, having the aim of rebuilding a 500-home line. SWNS is the source of this image.

Unfortunately, there was some confusion regarding which section of the line was required to be mended; hence, Gretarsson mistakenly put his hands on the wrong wire.

He got an electric shock and fell down 32 feet on land as an outcome. “I couldn’t get my memory till years later,” Gretarsson stated regarding the incident, “but I had fallen down and what I could remember was just the pain in my stomach and confusion.”

“The body also stops working after a trauma like this.” I lost all of my sensational feelings of burned arms or a broken back.

“I was just completely in shock.” Meanwhile, in the incident, Gretarsson’s arms were being burned, and his colleagues rushed to the closest river at that time to get water to put out the fire.

The latest thing Gretarsson could remember were the motivational statements of a colleague when they were trying to put the fire down. Although the extremely injured man could survive the hospital, he did not get rid of his problems there.

A three-month coma was caused after the tragedy. In the meantime, he went through at least 54 surgeries, which included a double arm surgery, in an effort to save his life.

He was being shifted to a rehab centre after all the operations were accomplished, and his medicine for pain was also eventually lowered.

Hence, he was dependent on other narcotics to cope rapidly, which caused addictions that affected his liver extremely, and a liver transplant was required.

He also ended up losing his job and his girlfriend at that time. He was also unable to meet his two young daughters during all this time.

Despite the fact that things appeared to be hopeless, a new world-class surgeon instilled hope in him and asked him to perform the innovative technique of double arm transplant.
