Mahodand Lake, a stunning lake in the Hindu Kush Mountain range and one of Pakistan’s most magnificent lake. It lies around 35 kilometres away from Kalam.

Mahodand is a lake near Kalam in Pakistan’s Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa region. It is situated approximately 35 kilometres away from Kalam. And we can reach there through a winding route that climbs steeply from either Jalkhand or Kalam.

Thick forests and expansive meadows lake encircles the lake, including pine forests and pastures that are used as a camping spots during the summer months. Reeds and grasses are abundant along the shores of the lake, contributing to the natural beauty of the area.

There is a small island known as “Zalzala Par” that is in the middle of the lake.  As well as a boat service is also present for tourists so that they can be transported there (the island of the quake). This island’s appearance, both in terms of colour and shape, alters because of the interaction of wind and water.

How to get there?

From Kalam, we can reach the valley through an unpaved route in a four-wheel-drive car or a four-by-four (4×4) vehicle. The route is hilly and difficult. However, the scenery all around you is so captivating that you can’t help but want to see more of it and expect coming across new panoramas.

You will enter the amazing and spectacular valley of Mahodand after travelling for approximately four to five hours from the enormous valley of Kalam. Here, you will be greeted by the little lakes, towering trees, and sweeping meadows that make up the valley. Chasma-e-Shifa

The locals have set up temporary dining establishments and hotels in order to meet the essential demand for places to eat and sleep. These establishments provide essential utilities. In addition, they offer watercraft facilities for use on the lakes.

Boundaries with Chitral Valley:

The valley extends for a considerable distance in all directions and meets the Chitral border in the far north.

In the district of Chitral, there is a well-established path that hikers can take to get to either Shandoor Top or Gazar.

They separated the river that flows through this area into several small and big lakes. Which originally teemed with brown and rainbow trout fish thanks to the previous monarch of Swat State who brought them.

Heaven for Trackers

The valley is a trekkers’ paradise and offers several lovely camping areas with plenty of cool water and firewood. However, hikers should plan for their own gas cylinders in order to protect the valley’s deteriorating environment and lessen the strain on the natural ecosystem.

The nomads who bring their animals there for grazing in the summer have built several modest houses. Tourists are welcome to stay in these huts, but occasionally various parasites infested them, so it’s preferable to set up your own high-quality tents and spend the night on the verdant green lawns of nature.

Spectacular Waterfalls

The splendor of the valley is further enhanced by several breathtaking waterfalls. They are of varying lengths and sizes. The larger the object, the louder the sound that travels throughout the valley as it makes impact.

The mucky water that cascades down these waterfalls not only contributes to the river’s flow, but it also leaves visitors awestruck and perplexed as they see the enormous height from which the water plummets while making a cracking sound as it hits the rocks below.
