We ‘re Going to Ask Every Country in the World to Name a Stadium after Pele: FIFA President

According to Fifa’s president, every country would be asked to rename a stadium in Pelé’s honor.

The three-time World Cup champion and more than 1,000-goal scorer Pelé passed away last Thursday at the age of 82.

We’re going to ask every nation in the globe to name one of their football stadiums with the name of Pelé, Infantino, who is in Brazil for Pelé’s funeral, told local reporters.

Rio de Janeiro decided against renaming the famous Maracan stadium after Pelé in April 2021 after the state governor objected to the idea.

Monday saw the placement of Pelé’s casket inside the Vila Belmiro stadium in Santos, the location of the team where he spent nearly his entire career.
