According to a survey conducted, wheat production this year may exceed previous records by a large margin, crossing 28.75 million tonnes, two million tonnes more than the previous high of 26.67 million tonnes in 2016/17.
If the harvest produces the expected output, Pakistan may not require further imports, at least not in significant quantities, as per the reports.
Due to two consecutive crop failures, Pakistan had to import more than two million tonnes of grain last year to make up for the shortfall in grain production.
The wheat harvest in Punjab, which accounts for around 75% of total production, is expected to be about 21.75 million this year.
