Huawei, following Apple’s footsteps, is making its PCs powered by in-house chips

Apple is not the only one who is growing their self-reliance by using silicon produced in-house. Huawei has agreed to follow suit and allow their chips to ship with their mate (PC) series. This may also be because Chinese businesses are continuously facing western bans and sanctions that significantly increases the need for self-reliance.

Photos and descriptions of the MateStation B515, which is a desktop computer, have been identified, according to sources. An ARM chip called the Kunpeng 920 (D920S10) powers the PC. Information shows that HiSilicon designed the board and manufactured it on a 7 nm die method by TSMC. 4 or 8 cores clocked at 2.6 GHz can come with the processor used.

The board consists of 4 UDIMM slots enabling DDR4-RAM (2400 MHz) for 64 GB. For faster storage, it will allow up to six SATA 3.0 drives for mass storage along with two M.2 SSDs. There are 3 PCIe 3.0 slots on the board as well (one x16, one x4, and one x1).

A standard AMD R7 Radeon 430 GPU with 4 USB 3.0 ports and 4 USB 2.0 ports plus two Gigabit Ethernet NICs will also come with the MateStation. A lightweight (8 litre) metal case houses the laptop.
