WhatsApp has introduced a new feature that allows users to automatically silence calls from unknown numbers. This feature was implemented due to the increasing number of spam calls reported by users in India, where the app has a large user base of over 500 million people.
During an announcement by Mark Zuckerberg on Tuesday, the call silencing feature was introduced alongside a new privacy checkup option, highlighting the importance of privacy and control for WhatsApp users. The new feature ensures enhanced privacy by automatically silencing incoming calls from unknown contacts.
To activate this feature, users can go to Settings > Privacy > Calls and enable the “Silence unknown caller” option. Despite the calls being silenced, notifications and call records from unknown numbers will still appear in the app. This allows users to review them later if necessary, in case the calls are from someone they know but haven’t saved their number in their contacts.
