Goodbye to Twitter? As Meta to Launch Twitter-Like App, Threads

Meta Platforms, formerly known as Facebook, is planning to introduce a new app called Threads to compete with Twitter. The decision to launch Threads comes shortly after Twitter CEO Elon Musk faced criticism for limiting the number of posts users can read on the platform. The new app, set to be released on Thursday, will allow users to keep their followers from Instagram and use the same username.

By entering the microblogging market, Meta Platforms aims to challenge Twitter’s dominance, despite the controversies surrounding the platform since Musk acquired it for $44 billion in 2022. While other similar sites have gained some popularity, none have been able to match Twitter’s success.

Meta Platforms is banking on Instagram’s large user base and successful track record of introducing new features to make an impact in the microblogging industry.
