Murtaza Wahab, the Mayor of Karachi, has proposed the restoration of British-era wells as a solution to tackle urban flooding in the city. During a visit to Burns Garden, Wahab emphasized the potential of reviving these wells to raise the groundwater level and prevent flooding.
He mentioned that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) is currently working on constructing wells in different parks across the city.
In Burns Garden, two old wells have already been reactivated with the help of an expert from Ukraine who is collaborating with the KMC’s parks department.
Wahab also shared plans to build similar wells at the Polo Ground in Baradari. These wells would help collect rainwater and improve the groundwater level in the area.
