Australian Company Introduces Glow-in-the-Dark Highway Paint Technology

Australian Company, Tarmac Linemarking introduces photoluminescent line markings, a significant achievement. The ‘glow-in-the-dark’ highway lines were tested in collaboration with Vic Roads and OmniGrip in May.

These markings work on the principle of photoluminescence where emitted light is absorbed during the day and is visible in the dark. The trial is carpeted over one kilometer of Metong Road in Victoria’s southeast region. The company has received overwhelming interest from businesses.

Other researchers and institutions including the City of Calgary, a team at Michoacan University of San Nicolas de Hidalgo, university of Cairo are working on similar technology.

The project was a government initiative aiming to improve the visibility on roads for drivers in low-light conditions ensuring safety and environmental sustainability.
