Interwood & TNS Beaconhouse Partner to Transform the Way Children Learn

In 2022, TNS Beaconhouse set up the first-of-its-kind experiential learning school in Lahore and partnered with Pakistan’s leading furniture brand, Interwood, to furnish the entire project.

Unlike conventional schools, TNS Beaconhouse features an open learning system void of classrooms and instead relies on open and free-flowing spaces to promote active learning, interaction and exploration. The purpose-built school building spans 4 floors, each 20,000 square feet in size. To furnish this space, TNS Beaconhouse required equally unconventional furniture solutions designed to encourage students of various ages to learn, relax and play freely and safely.

Interwood worked closely with Ar. Muhammad Saad Khan (Principal Architect, Designs) and Mr. Shahrukh Suleman (General Manager – Special Projects Beaconhouse Group), to design and develop over 75 unique furniture pieces for the project (delivering a total of 750 individual pieces). The global-standard furniture (manufactured entirely in Pakistan) followed a free-flowing ‘organic’ design theme, ranging from customized desks, stools and chairs to creative hiding spaces, reading towers, puzzle stools, storage boxes, inspiration trees, library shelves, laboratory tables, modular sofas, bean bags, picnic tables, lockers and more. Pieces were also carefully designed with student’s anthropometrics in mind, ranging from junior-size furniture for younger students to larger pieces for higher sections. Certain pieces were designed to promote collaboration while others were made for isolation/concentration and relaxation, while vibrant color schemes were selected to create a youthful and inspiring environment. Despite this being the first project of its kind in Pakistan, Interwood was able to furnish the entire school in a record time, completing the project in just 6 months.

Today, TNS Beaconhouse is renowned as a symbol of evolving education, providing students with a dynamic learning environment that is unlike any other, building on its reputation as ‘The School of Tomorrow’.
