Morocco Earthquake Death Toll Crosses 2000

A very strong earthquake hit Morocco, and it’s really bad news. More than 2,000 people have died because of it, and the same number got hurt. Out of those, about 1,400 people are seriously injured. The worst damage happened in areas just south of a city called Marrakesh.

The king of Morocco, King Mohammed VI, has declared three days of mourning for the whole country. He’s also making sure that survivors get a place to stay, food, and other things they need.

This big earthquake, with a magnitude of 6.8, happened on a Friday night and caused a lot of damage. In some places up in the mountains, entire villages have been destroyed.

The earthquake started in a place called the High Atlas Mountains, about 44 miles southwest of Marrakesh. Marrakesh is a famous city known for its historical sites and is popular with tourists.
