Sister Zeph, a teacher from Pakistan, won the important Global Teacher Prize for 2023 and received a $1 million award. She started her remarkable journey at just 13 by creating a school for underprivileged children in her home’s courtyard.
She worked hard, funding the school with eight-hour workdays, teaching for four hours, and spending her nights on self-learning. In 26 years, the school has grown from a small start to a new building, offering free education to over 200 disadvantaged children.
Sister Zeph plans to use the prize money to build a school on a four-hectare campus for the poorest children in Pakistan, without discrimination. She also aims to establish a shelter for orphans and invite teachers worldwide to provide classes.
Sister Zeph’s dedication and positive impact on her community earned her this prestigious award, recognizing exceptional contributions to the teaching profession. Her story highlights the power of education in addressing contemporary issues and nurturing young minds.
