The water level at Rawal Dam has risen sharply to 1,749 feet, which is very close to its danger mark of 1,752 feet. Because of this, the authorities have issued a warning for the public to stay alert and follow safety guidelines.
To control the rising water pressure, the dam’s spillways will be opened at 6 a.m. and will stay open for about five hours.
This step will help release extra water and prevent any possible overflow or damage. According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the water level was last recorded at 1,748.40 feet, which shows how fast the level is increasing due to heavy rainfall in the region.
Officials have asked people living in low-lying areas near the dam to move to safer places to avoid any risk of flooding. Local rescue teams and authorities are ready to help people if needed.
The public has also been strictly told not to go near the dam’s edges or the spillway area. People are warned to avoid any activities like swimming, fishing, or even taking photos near the water, as the strong flow can be very dangerous when the spillways are open.
Authorities are monitoring the situation closely and will keep the public informed about any further steps. Residents are advised to listen to official instructions and stay away from risky areas until the water level goes down and it is safe again.
