Chinese electric vehicle brand Honri has welcomed a new group of e-taxi owners in Punjab as part of the province’s shift toward cleaner urban transport. The milestone marks another step in the rollout of electric taxis under the government’s green mobility plan.
The ceremony was held to hand over vehicles to selected drivers who qualified under the scheme. Many of the new owners are joining the transport sector for the first time.
Officials said the program is designed to reduce fuel costs, cut air pollution, and create income opportunities.
Honri’s compact electric cars are known for low running costs and easy maintenance. Compared to petrol vehicles, electric taxis can help drivers save money on daily fuel expenses.
Charging infrastructure is also being expanded in major cities to support the growing number of electric vehicles on the roads.
The Punjab government is offering financial support to make ownership easier. Selected drivers can pay for the vehicles in installments, while certain upfront costs are covered under the scheme. Women drivers are also being encouraged to participate, supporting wider inclusion in the transport industry.
E-taxis can help reduce carbon emissions in busy cities like Lahore and Rawalpindi. Transport is one of the main sources of urban pollution, and shifting to electric vehicles may improve air quality over time.
With more vehicles now on the road, officials hope the initiative will promote clean transport and support economic growth across the province.
