The UAE’s Federal Prosecution for Combating Rumours and Cybercrimes has arrested an individual of Asian descent following the circulation of a viral video on social media. The video showed the person displaying a large amount of money inside a luxury car showroom in the UAE.
The individual is accused of “misusing the internet” by sharing the video, which UAE authorities claim incites public opinion and poses a threat to public welfare. Additionally, the Asian expat is facing charges for spreading content that goes against the country’s “approved media standards” and shows disrespect towards Emirati society.
The UAE Attorney General’s Office examined the video, which captures the individual wearing traditional Emirati clothing and a face mask as they enter the luxury car showroom. In the background, two people can be seen carrying what appears to be a significant sum of money.
