Babar Azam Reappointed as Pakistan’s White-Ball Captain Ahead of T20 World Cup 2024

Star cricketer Babar Azam has been given back the responsibility of leading Pakistan’s white-ball cricket team in both One Day Internationals (ODIs) and Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced this decision on X (formerly Twitter) after a suggestion from the PCB’s selection committee.

Babar Azam, who is 29 years old, had asked the PCB to let him be the captain for all three formats of the game. This request came after he was removed as the captain in all formats after the ICC World Cup 2023.

The decision to make Babar Azam the captain again was made because the team faced losses under the leadership of Shaheen Afridi in the T20I series against New Zealand. The team also lost in the Test format under Shan Masood’s captaincy in a series against Australia.

Babar Azam has led Pakistan in five international tournaments before, including the T20 World Cup and the Asia Cup, but the team didn’t win any big titles under his leadership.
