Former Pakistan cricket captain Mohammad Hafeez has stirred up a debate after saying that Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan are no longer the main players of the national team.
Speaking on a YouTube show, Hafeez shared that the team should now focus on consistent performers like Salman Ali Agha, Saim Ayub, and young talent Hasan Nawaz. According to him, these players have shown the ability to win matches, and their efforts deserve more attention and appreciation.
Hafeez further said that Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan need to prove their worth again if they want to secure their place in the team.
He explained that no player should rely only on their past performances or reputation. Instead, they must show current form and deliver results for Pakistan.
He also spoke about the fast-bowling department, criticizing Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah for not living up to expectations in crucial moments. Hafeez argued that Pakistan needs match-winners who can consistently perform under pressure and bring victories for the country.
The former captain emphasized that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) should focus on long-term performers who bring stability to the team. He believes building a strong side requires rewarding players who contribute regularly instead of relying on a few big names.
Hafeez’s remarks have sparked mixed reactions among fans and cricket experts. While some agree that younger players deserve more chances, others feel that experienced cricketers like Babar and Rizwan still play a vital role in guiding the team.
