‘Best Possible’ Coach to be Appointed within 10 Days, PCB Chairman Naqvi

Mohsin Naqvi, the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), has made significant announcements regarding the appointment of a new head coach for the national cricket team, emphasizing the urgency to finalize the decision within the next ten days. This urgency stems from the upcoming T20 World Cup in the United States and the Caribbean islands, highlighting the critical need for a cohesive coaching staff to lead Pakistan’s team.

Initially, there were reports suggesting the PCB’s inclination towards hiring a foreign coach, especially after the departure of Mickey Arthur following Pakistan’s disappointing performance in the World Cup. However, Naqvi clarified that the priority is to select the most suitable candidate, whether foreign or local, to steer the team through the upcoming tournament.

Naqvi’s reluctance to disclose specific details about the new appointment underscores the detrimental impact of leaked and inaccurate information, as seen with Australia’s Shane Watson withdrawing from consideration for the coaching position. This caution reflects the PCB’s commitment to maintaining integrity and avoiding unnecessary disruptions.

Additionally, Naqvi highlighted the commencement of a boot camp for Pakistan’s top cricketers in Abbottabad from March 25, stressing the importance of having the new coach accompany them. This underscores the significance of establishing a cohesive team environment and strategy ahead of crucial tournaments.

Addressing concerns about hosting the ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan, especially given India’s past reluctance to play in the country, Naqvi expressed confidence in the PCB’s ability to overcome challenges and ensure a successful tournament. This confidence reflects the PCB’s proactive approach to handling any potential obstacles and underscores their determination to showcase Pakistan as a capable host for international cricket events.
