Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has taken strong and immediate action against private boat operators in Multan who were found guilty of overcharging flood victims during rescue operations.
The decision came after several public complaints and reports highlighted that some private operators were taking advantage of vulnerable people in flood-hit areas. Families already struggling with the disaster were being forced to pay unfairly high fares just to reach safer places.
In response, the Chief Minister announced that all private boats will now operate strictly under police supervision. Maryam Nawaz Sharif further declared that the Punjab government will cover all transportation costs. This means that flood-affected families will no longer have to pay for boat services.
