On Saturday, a bag containing a makeshift explosive device was discovered by the police on a train at Karachi’s Cantonment Railway Station. The bomb disposal unit safely defused the bomb, which was hidden under a seat in the Awam Express arriving from Peshawar to Karachi on Friday.
Raja Umar Khattab, a senior officer from the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), suggested that a separatist group might be involved in this attempt to sabotage. The bomb, weighing 5 kilograms and using 2 kilograms of explosives, was connected to a “time device,” with a motorcycle battery intended for detonation.
The Director General of Police (DIG) South, Syed Asad Raza, mentioned that the potential target was the north of Sindh, as the bomb was set to explode on Friday at 12 pm when the train was near Sukkur-Rohri Junction. Fortunately, a malfunctioned wire prevented the explosion.
The police were informed about the bomb one hour after the train reached Cantt Station, reported by the railway staff. No case has been filed yet, and it will be registered at the Railway Police Cantt Station. DIG Raza mentioned that CCTV footage from different train stations along the route is being obtained, and the railway staff is under investigation.
