Burj Khalifa to Lose Crown of World’s Tallest Building as New Tower Set to Beat it by 1,000 Meters

Under construction in Saudi Arabia, the Jeddah Tower, also known as Kingdom Tower, is set to become the world’s tallest building, surpassing the Burj Khalifa, which currently holds that title at 828 meters. The Jeddah Tower is expected to exceed 1,000 meters, potentially redefining the global skyline.

Developed by the Jeddah Economic Company, this massive structure will serve as a comprehensive complex, featuring luxury residences, offices, serviced apartments, and high-end condominiums. It is also planned to house the “world’s highest observatory,” adding to its list of impressive features.

Despite the University of Tokyo Atacama Observatory currently holding a different altitude record, the Jeddah Tower’s ambitious design and estimated $1.23 billion cost position it as a strong contender to surpass the Burj Khalifa.

Situated in north Jeddah as part of a massive $20 billion mega-project, construction on this architectural marvel resumed in 2023 after a five-year pause. The uncertainty around its completion date adds to the anticipation, as its proposed size and amenities present a significant challenge to the Burj Khalifa’s record.
