Cabinet Gives Approval to Deploy Pakistan Army in Upcoming Elections 2024

Under the leadership of Caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar, the federal cabinet recently convened to address crucial matters pertaining to the upcoming elections. In a unanimous move, the cabinet gave the green light to deploy both the Army and Civil Armed Forces during the polls to ensure a secure and orderly electoral process. Specifically, the Army is set to operate as the Red Response Force in sensitive constituencies.

This decision followed the submission of a summary by the Federal Ministry of Interior, emphasizing the imperative role of military services in maintaining a secure electoral environment.

The approved summary outlines a significant deployment, involving 277,000 officers and personnel from the Pakistan Army, alongside Rangers and Frontier Corps (FC) personnel assigned for election duties. These combined forces will serve as a swift response force in sensitive areas during the general elections scheduled for February 8.

To bolster readiness for a fair and transparent electoral process, the Election Commission has frozen the funds of all local government departments.

Beyond election-related discussions, the federal cabinet extensively examined a summary regarding the restructuring of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). However, a conclusive decision on FBR restructuring was deferred during the cabinet meeting.

In response, the Prime Minister has proactively formed a committee to further deliberate on the proposed reforms within the FBR, aiming to enhance organizational efficiency.
