A resident of the city who sells motorcycles on installment plans is facing an unexpected problem after traffic fines worth more than PKR 2.3 million were issued in his name.
According to Safe City officials, the man has around 500 motorcycles still registered under his personal record.
Safe City sources revealed that a total of 2,071 traffic fines have been issued for these motorcycles. The fines include various traffic violations recorded by surveillance cameras across the city.
Since all the bikes are officially registered in one person’s name, the penalties are being linked to him, even though he is not using the motorcycles himself.
The man, who lives in the Gadhi Shahu area, runs a business where he sells motorcycles on easy monthly installments. Over time, he has sold more than 500 bikes to different customers. However, many buyers have not completed full payment and have also failed to transfer ownership into their own names.
Because of this delay in ownership transfer, the vehicles legally remain under the seller’s name in official records. As a result, whenever a traffic rule is broken, the fine is automatically issued to him through the Safe City system.
Officials say this case highlights the importance of timely vehicle ownership transfer after a sale. Without proper documentation, sellers can face serious legal and financial trouble. Authorities are now advising installment-based sellers and buyers to complete registration transfers as soon as possible to avoid such issues.
The incident has also raised awareness about responsible buying and selling practices. Traffic officials say digital monitoring systems are working accurately, but incomplete paperwork can lead to unfair penalties for sellers who are no longer in control of the vehicles.
