Championship of Legends Pak-India Match Cancelled as Indian Players Refused to Play Because of Shahid Afridi

The much-awaited World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025 match between Pakistan and India has been cancelled. The match was supposed to take place today at Edgbaston in Birmingham but was called off because several top Indian players pulled out at the last moment.

According to First Post, the situation became tense after Shahid Afridi’s inclusion in the Pakistan squad reportedly caused problems for the Indian side. This led to some key Indian players deciding not to play. Well-known names like Harbhajan Singh, Yusuf Pathan, Irfan Pathan, and Suresh Raina withdrew, leaving the India Champions team short of star players.

Fans quickly criticised the sudden withdrawals and questioned why top players dropped out. This also put extra pressure on other big names like Yuvraj Singh and Shikhar Dhawan, who were still expected to play.

The World Championship of Legends is not controlled by India’s cricket board (BCCI) because it is an independent event featuring retired cricket stars. This means there is no official authority to step in when such problems happen.

The India Champions team, led by Yuvraj Singh, was all set to face a strong Pakistan side with big names like Shahid Afridi, Mohammad Hafeez, and Shoaib Malik.

However, after so many Indian players left the squad, organisers had no choice but to cancel the match because the team was not balanced enough to compete fairly.

Fans are disappointed as they were excited to see legendary players in action again. Many hope the organisers will find a way to handle such issues better in the future so matches like this can go on as planned.
