Changa Manga Forest – Everything You Need to Know

Parks for outdoor enjoyment are few in Pakistan, but the Changa Manga Park in the Kasur division of forest is one among them. Thousands of people from every walk of life visit this location every month.

Changa Manga

It has become one of Pakistan’s most commonly frequented parks over the years due to a shortage of recreational options in the province and the surrounding suburbs of Lahore in particular. It was boating on Lunar Lake, seeing the pagoda and the wildlife life parks connected by the Tramway and other amenities constructed.

Forest’s resources include picnic areas, suspension bridges, and swimming pools. A four-bedroom motel is also available, as are new four- and 5-bedroom Forest Rest Houses. Most of these facilities have experienced a setback due to financial constraints and are not being maintained to the requisite standards. Visitors are taken into account when making decisions.

History

The North-Western Railway was short of resources in 1864. Dr. John Lindsay Stewart, the very first Punjab Conservator of Forests, advocated allocating a chunk of land for each railway region where forest plantations could be grown to meet the expanding need.   The Kasur district received such a parcel of land in the Chunian tehsil just on the Lahore-Karachi railway line.

The terrain was semi-desert scrubs, jungle, thorn forest, and light alluvial soils that simply needed watering to produce crops. The Gondhal and Sansi gipsies lived here, which the British nicknamed “jungles” (a derogatory phrase meaning “jungle-dwelling barbarians”).

The area was sliced and burned to remove thorn woodland and dry scrub growth. The barren jungle scrubs were progressively changed into irrigated plains.

Changa Manga Forest

The Changa Manga is located in the Kasur & Lahore districts of Punjab province, Pakistan. Approximately 80 kilometers from Lahore in the southwest is where you’ll find it. Although it was formerly the world’s largest man-made forest, the area has been deforested illegally in recent years.

Changa Manga Forest

Known as “one of the earliest hand-planted forests are found,” Changa Manga is home to a diverse diversity of flora and wildlife, making it a popular tourist destination. It is home to 14 mammals, 50 kinds of birds, six kinds of reptiles, two kinds of amphibians, and 27 kinds of insects. The citation for this statement is not available. As a result, the forest acts as a vital animal habitat in addition to providing timber for such a local economy.

Changa Manga Location

Near Chunian and Bhai Pheru, the Changa Manga forests can be accessed through a road off of the N-5 Highway. The forest is currently 48.6 square kilometers in size (12,000 acres). One of the world’s largest man-made forests has been reduced to less than half its original size by deforestation. It’s also renowned as “one of the world’s oldest hand-planted forests,” according to some.

Since its establishment in 1866, the plantation has served as a source of timber and fuel again for the North-Western rail system. The Fabaceae family includes Dalbergia sissoo (Sheesham) & Acacia nilotica (Kikar), two of the most common plant species. Also introduced was Morus alba (white mulberry), which became a popular crop in South Asia. Eucalyptus and Populus are also found in the woodland.

Conclusion

The details of the Changa manga forest, its location, and history are mentioned above. Changa Manga is the first artificial planted forest located in the Kasur and Lahore districts of Punjab, Pakistan. It’s around 80 km south of Lahore. It was originally the world’s largest man-made forest but has recently seen significant illicit deforestation.
