China’s Auto Exports Topped the World in the First Half of 2023, Overtaking Japan

In the first half of 2023, China sold 2.341 million vehicles to other countries, which is a big increase of 76.9% compared to last year. The total amount of money from selling these vehicles was USD 46.42 billion, which is 1.1 times more than before.

For comparison, Japan sold 2.02 million vehicles in the first half of this year, which is 17% more than last year.China’s electric vehicles are the most popular for export, and their sales are growing a lot. This means that new energy vehicles are now the main focus of China’s vehicle exports.

According to the Ministry of Commerce of China, in the first four months of this year, almost half (42.9%) of the value of the vehicles they exported were new energy vehicles. These new energy vehicles contributed to more than half (51.6%) of the growth in vehicle exports.
