Just one day after officials shut down an illegal slaughterhouse in Islamabad—where they found nearly a tonne of donkey meat and rescued 50 live donkeys—two Chinese companies have now formally applied for permission to legally export donkey meat from Pakistan.
According to reliable sources, both companies have submitted official requests to begin operations for slaughterhouses and to obtain export licenses. This move is seen as the beginning of a legal and regulated supply chain for the export of donkey meat and bones from Pakistan to China.
If approved, this would mark the first time Pakistan allows such exports through a lawful and monitored process. It could also open up new trade opportunities between the two countries, although the development is raising concerns among animal rights activists and the general public, especially after the recent discovery of illegal activity.
